Frank J. Bartok, age 92, of Lorain, died Tuesday, October 18, 2005, at The New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, after a brief illness.
He was born on April 11, 1913 in Beye, Hungary. He lived in Castalia, Ohio for ten years before moving to Lorain where he resided for the past 75 years.
Frank served in the US Army during World War II, where he participated in several battles in the Pacific region, including Pelelieu and Okinawa. He had received the American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with 3 bronze Service Stars, and a World War II Victory Medal.
He was a member of St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, where he was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Holy Name Society of the church. He was also a past treasurer for St. Lad's Club.
Frank was a bricklayer in the masonry department for Lorain Works US Steel for 39 years, before retiring in 1975.
Frank enjoyed reading, walking, gardening, especially his roses, and most of all, he truly enjoyed his grandchildren.
Surviving, is his wife of 59 years, Louise (nee Fogo) Bartok, his three sons; Stephen (Kathy), of North Ridgeville, OH, Michael (Judy), of Hinkley, OH, and Ronald, of Lorain, OH, his 2 grandchildren, his 2 step-grandchildren and his sister, Helen Wojtko, of Lorain, OH.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Frank and Barbara (nee Bodnar) Bartok, and his sister Mary Kitka.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 21, 2005, from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, with the Rev. Fr. James P. Schmitz officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, where full military honors will be conducted by the Lorain VFW Post 451 and the American Legion #30.
