Frank T. Solomon, age 84, of Sheffield Township, died on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at New Life Hospice Residential Center, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Lorain on February 24, 1922; and has been a lifelong resident of the area.
He served 4 years in the United States Army as a corporal during World War II. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars and the World War II Victory Medal.
He was employed as a bricklayer at Lorain Works US Steel for 42 years, retiring in 1984.
Frank was a member of the St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Lorain.
He was also a member of the United Steelworkers Local Union #1104, Holy Name Society of St. Nicholas and the American Slovak Club.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing, watching football and baseball.
He is survived by his brother, William of Lorain; a sister, Margaret Trautwein of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen (nee Topeka) in 1970; parents, Michael and Mary (nee Krajcsovic) Solomon; brothers, Andrew in 1995, George, Michael and John in 1985; sisters, Anna Yuhasz in 1999, Mary Foreman in 2002, and Josephine Solomon in 1983.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where a parastas service will be at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 2711 W. 40th Street, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Nicholas Rachford, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
