Frank J. Vargo, age 86, of Lorain, died on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 in the Emergency Room at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center, West, Lorain, following a brief illness.
He was born on September 28, 1923 in Lorain, where he has been a life resident.
He served in the United States Army during WWII participating in the Battle of Luzon and receiving the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with 1 bronze star, Phillipine Liberation Ribbon with 1 bronze star, Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
Frank was employed for 22 years at Fruehauf as a punch press operator. After the plant closed he was employed in the maintenance dept. of Crown Steel.
He was a member of Hungarian Reformed Church and the VFW Post #451. Frank enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his brother, Steve of Amherst, sisters, Mary Kish, Of Columbus, Olga Burnhart, of Lorain, Jo-Anna Dunlap, of Iowa, Vilma Putnoky, of North Carolina, and Shirley Mowery, of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Joan (nee Sescila), parents, Frank and Priscilla (nee Yuhas) Vargo, sister, Percilla Harmon and brother, Joseph.
The family will receive friends on Friday, from 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be held on Saturday, at 11:00 am. The Rev. Alana Kelley, Pastor of The Magyar United Church of Christ, Elyria, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
