Gale W. Shafer, age 60, of Lorain, died Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Community Health Partners, Lorain following a lengthy illness
Born Sept. 28, 1949 in Wadsworth, Ohio, he lived his entire life in Lorain.
He attended Admiral King High School and served in the US Navy aboard the USS Hermitage from 1968 to 1970. He received the National Defense Service Medal.
He worked at Lorain Works US Steel and the Ford Motor Company, Avon Plant. He then worked at McDonalds in Elyria.
He was a member of Broadway Assembly, Lorain. He enjoyed working, the outdoors, fishing and working on cars. He also was an avid Cleveland Browns fan.
Surviving is his wife, Cynthia (nee Polliard); his children, James of Lorain, Dallie Farley of Lorain, Daniel W. of Lorain, Jesse of North Ridgeville, Aaron of Lorain, Gregory of Lorain, and Cody of Lorain; 15 grandchildren; his mother, Margaret I. (nee Comer) Shafer of Vermilion; 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur M. Shafer; and a granddaughter, Janelle Farley.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 at Broadway Assembly, 5495 Broadway Ave., Lorain, where funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 am. Rev. Matt Jones, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain. Full military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #30 combined with the VFW #451.
