Lieutenant George A. Billings (Ret.), age 95, formerly of Lorain, died on Friday, January 04, 2008, at Grace Hospital in Amherst following a short illness.
Born on November 29, 1912 in Lorain, he lived in Lorain most of his life. He spent the last several years of his life living in Elyria, near his son.
He graduated from St. Mary High School, Lorain in 1932. He attended John Carroll University for 2 years. He also served in the US Army during World War II.
Lieutenant Billings served on the Lorain City Fire Department for 35 years, retiring in 1973.
He was a former member of St. Mary Church, Lorain and a current member of St. Jude Church, Elyria. He was a member of the VFW Post 93, Elyria and the Lorain Firefighters Local #267.
At one time, he enjoyed playing golf and horse back riding.
Survivors include his son, Richard E., of Elyria, 1 granddaughter and 2 great-granddaughters; and his brother, Leo Ward, of Sandusky.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria "Vi" (nee Burbliss) in 1991.
Private services were held for the family. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain handled the arrangements
