George P. Cherney Jr., 60, of Lorain, died Thursday, May 22, 2008 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain.
He was born Aug. 24, 1947 in Lorain, and lived in the county his entire life. He worked for US Steel and was a member of St. John Roman Catholic Church, Lorain, and the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104. He enjoyed working on his car and woodworking.
Surviving are his twin daughters with whom he enjoyed spending time with, Brittany Montgomery of Lorain and Bethany Cherney of Elyria; grandson Chase Bailey and granddaughter, Morgan Henes; brothers, Michael Cherney Avon Lake, J. Mark Zakowski of Lorain; sister Jeanne Schwartz of Lorain; mother, Maria Zakowski, step father Joseph Zakowski of Lorain; his former wives, Elaine Longbrake and Kay Cherney both of Elyria. He was preceded in death by his father, George P. Cherney Sr.
A memorial mass is scheduled for Saturday at 10:00 am at St. John Roman Catholic Church, Homewood Dr. and Grove Ave., Lorain. Rev. Fr. Thomas Smith, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, is handling the arrangements.
