George F. Hess, age 82, of Lorain, died on Wednesday, January 3, 2007, at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home, Lorain, after a long illness.
He was born on March 22, 1924 in St. Mary's, West Virginia. He had moved to Lorain in 1947, where he resided for the rest of his life.
He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church, Lorain. He was employed at Fruehauf Trailer for 21 years. He had also worked at the Oberlin Manor for 12 years, after Fruehauf Trailer Company closed, finally retiring at the age of 70.
Mr. Hess enjoyed reading, target shooting, gardening, and listening to Christian music. He also enjoyed teaching and preaching to people about his religion.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley (nee Humphreys), of Lorain, 1 grandson, and 7 step - grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 8, 2007, from 10 until the time of services at 11 a.m., in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. The Rev. Jay Roller, Pastor of Grace Baptist Church, will officiate. The Rev. Geneva "Gigi" Hudson will co-officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens.
