George Rajher

George J. Rajher, 86, of Lorain, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph following a brief illness.
Born April 6, 1923 in Lorain, he was a life long resident here. George was a 1941 graduate of Lorain High School and served a corporal in the US Army during World War II with the Battery B 951st Field Artillery Battalion. He participated in the battles and campaigns of Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the Purple Heart, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, Bronze Star Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
He worked as a machinist for the B & O Railroad for 43 years retiring in 1984. He was a member of St. Vitus Catholic Church. George was an avid photographer.
Surviving is his nephew, Joseph (Pat) Rajher of Villa Rica, Georgia; nieces, Gail Kernaghan of Dover Delaware, and Mary Jo (Don) Dindino of Lorain; 3 great nieces and 2 great great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael in 1953 and Theresa (nee Balogh) Rajher in 1994; brothers, Joseph in 1994 and Michael in 1981.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 9:00 am until the time of services at 10:30 am in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral mass will follow at 11:00 am at St. Vitus Catholic Church, 1785 E. 32nd St, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Simon Nekic, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
