George E. Siegel, age 89, of Lorain, died on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at his residence, while under the care of New Life Hospice.
He was born on January 25, 1920 in Buffalo, NY, moving to Lorain in 1958.
George served in the United States Army as a technician first class during World War II. He received the American Theater Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
He was employed at Ford Motor Company, Lorain for over 36 years as a maintenance painter, retiring in 1981.
He was a former member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, and a member of the United Auto Workers Union Local 425. He also served as vice chairman of the UAW Local 425 Retirees and chairman of the by-laws committee and as a delegate with the UAW Community Action Program. George enjoyed fishing, gardening and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
George is survived by his son, Robert Michael Siegel of Fort Washington, MD; daughters, George-Ann Ortiz and Jacqueline Brestovansky, both of Lorain; grandchildren, Rachell Benczi, Tracy Chiorazzi, Kelly Rivera and Terri Diaz; and 6 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Shirley (nee Au), in 1986; parents, Frank A. and Irene E. (nee Scarry) Siegel; brothers, Robert, James and Joseph: and sister, Catherine Santowski.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6:00 - 8:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, with a prayer service at 7:45 pm. Rev. Fr. James Ols, pastor of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church will officiate.
