Gerald D. Smith, age 75, of Lorain, died on Sunday, December 16, 2007 at his residence, following a brief illness.
He was born on May 3, 1932 in Lorain, where he has been a lifelong resident.
He attended St. Ladislaus Parochial School, Hawthorne and Lorain High School.
He served in the United States Army as a corporal during the Korean War. He served from Jan. 29th 1951 until December 31, 1953. Gerald earned the Korean Service Medal with 2 bronze stars, also earning the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and Germany Occupation Medal.
Gerald was employed at the Lorain House Lumber Company, Lorain for 22 years before retiring.
He is survived by his sisters: Marlene Torres and Darlene Gauna, both of Lorain.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Charles H. and Anna Mary (nee Nagy) Smith, sister: Joann Smith in 1987 and his brothers: Charles Smith, Jr. in 1993, Robert Smith in 1999 and William Smith in 1976.
Family will receive friends on Friday, December 21, 2007 from 10:00 until time of service at 11:00 a.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Rocky Ortiz, deacon of Sacred Heart Chapel, will officiate. DAV will conduct military honors. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery.
