Gilbert L. Mike, age 60, of Lorain, died on Thursday, February 15, 2007 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center - West, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
He was born May 11, 1946 in Metz, West Virginia; He lived in Four States, West Virginia before coming to Lorain 15 years ago.
A Vietnam War Veteran, Gilbert served as a specialist 4th grade with the Army 275th Signal Company in the US Army for two years in the late 1960's. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
He worked as a truck driver for Jonick Trucking Co. in Sheffield, Ohio since 1992.
He enjoyed his old cars and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Surviving is his daughter Michelle Argenti of Vermilion; 6 grandchildren; a brother Joe Mike of Worthington, West Virginia, sisters; Jane Rutter of Wadsworth, Ohio, Ruth O'Dell of Mannington, West Virginia, Catherine Markley of Four States, West Virginia, Rose Goudy of Farmington, West Virginia and Doris Whetsell of Shinnston, West Virginia; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Leslie F. Mike, and Myrtle M. (nee Jones) Mike; brothers, John Mike and Henry Mike.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007 from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. The family will also receive friends on Monday from 4:00 to 9:00 pm at the Masters Funeral Home, E. 209 Main St., Mannington, West Virginia. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Opal Shuttleswoth, officiating. The Marion County Veterans Council will conduct full military honors at the funeral home before burial in Boggus-Scritchfield Cemetery, Glade Fork/Mannington, West Virginia.
