Gladys B. Pokol (nee Slavik), age 98, of Lorain, passed away on Friday, March 30, 2012, at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain, after a very brief illness.
She was born on May 10, 1913, in Lorain, where she lived her entire life. Gladys attended Lorain High School. Before marriage, she was employed at Weitz's as a seamstress. She was a life member of the former St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Czarnicki Lodge No. 1430, as well as a member of the Faith Followers of Helen Steiner Rice, with whom she served as an officer.
Gladys enjoyed gardening, especially her roses, and sewing. She also adored her cat "Chichi."
She is survived by her daughter, Rita (Robert) Poimbeauf, of Bellaire, TX, and her nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, parents; Kazimer Slavik, in 1965 and Barbara (nee Burda), in 1974, brothers; Frank and Joseph, and a nephew, Richard.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 1, from 6-8 pm, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Her funeral Mass will be on Monday, at 9:30 am, at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
Gladys' family would like to express their heartfelt "thank you" to Dr. George Bescak, for all of the wonderful years of care she received from him, as well as great appreciation for Agatha, who also cared for her in her final years here.
