Guadalupe Cruz Villegas, 73, of Lorain, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at his daughter's residence while under the care of Hospice of the Western Reserve following a lengthy illness.
Born December 14, 1941 in Humacao, Puerto Rico, he came to Lorain in the 1960's and worked in a greenhouse in Avon for many years.
He attended Sacred Heart Chapel. Guadalupe had a passion for music. He loved singing, playing dominoes and playing his guitar, having played in a band for over 20 years. He also enjoyed playing bingo and lottery tickets.
Surviving are his sons, Victor Castro of Saginaw, Guadalupe Villegas Jr., Alberto Villegas and Alexander Villegas all of Saginaw, MI, Ezekiel Castro of Burlington, N.C., and Robert Cruz of Lorain; daughters, Tracy Glynn of Elyria, Irma Castro of Santa Ana, CA, Ida Villegas of Long Beach, CA, Stephanie Mata of Lorain, Jennifer Villegas of Santa Anna, CA, and Hetty Cruz of Amherst; 33 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; brothers, Luis Marin Cruz and Jose Gutierrez both of Lorain, Atamnasio Cruz of Bronx, NY, and Jose Angel Cruz, of Humacao, PR, ; sisters, Ana Cruz, Juanita Gutierrez and Cristela Gutierrez all of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his wife, San Juanita Villegas in 2012, his parents, Mariano and Isabel (Villegas) Gutierrez; a daughter, Ana Lewis; and 1 sister and 10 brothers;
The family will receive friends on Monday from 4:00 - 8:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Tuesday at 8:45 am followed by mass at 9:30 am at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. William Thaden, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
