Harriet V. Szantay (nee Kramer), age 85, of Lorain, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Life Care Center of Elyria following a lengthy illness.
Born Feb. 29, 1932 in Pittsburgh, PA, she moved to Lorain in 1954.
Harriet worked in the housekeeping department of the former St. Joseph's and Lorain Community Hospitals for 12 years, retiring in 2001.
She was a member of St. Lad's Club, American Legion and Polish American Citizens Club. Harriet enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting and playing bingo. She also loved taking bus trips to casinos and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.
Surviving are her sons, Claude Sparks Jr. of Wentzville, Missouri and Clyde Sparks of Lorain; step sons, Ronald Szantay of Sheffield Village and Richard Szantay of Elyria; and step daughters, Sharon Udovich of Grafton and Shelly Bixby of Elyria; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; her sister, Catherine Ciamelle of Pennsylvania; brothers, Patrick Alexander and Harry Alexander both of Pennsylvania.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Claude Sparks in 1970; her second husband, Ronald Szantay in 1984; her parents, Harry and Helen (Diamond) Kramer; her birth mother, Alice Alexander; and brothers, Charles Miller and Michael Alexander; and sisters, Mildred Crassey, Alice Faye and Betty Skiba.
