Helen M. Beregszazy, (nee Takach), 97, of Lorain, died Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain following a short illness.
Born Oct. 8, 1911 in Lorain, she moved to Beckley, West Virginia in the late 1920's. She then lived in New Jersey with her aunt where she met her first husband, Harold Westcott. In 1944 she returned to Lorain.
She worked for National Tube US Steel in Lorain from 1944 to 1951 as a threader in the pipe mills. She also worked on many war bond drives. In 1951 she married Arthur E. Beregszazy. In 1952 they moved to Amherst, living there until settling in Lorain in 1960 where she has lived since.
Because of her husband's interest in bowling, Helen has enjoyed bowling for many years. She is a member of the Lorain Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame. Many of her bowling years were spent bowling with her grandson, Eric Peterson. They were known as "Killer" and "The Kid". She is also a 50 year member of the Stone City Chapter #325 Order of the Eastern Star, having just received her 50 year pin this last week. She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Amherst. She loved yard work.
Surviving is her son, Ronald S. (Marilee) Westcott of Amherst; her daughter and care giver for the past 7 years, Eleanor J. Peterson of Lorain; 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 5 great great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Arthur in 1990, and a sister, Margaret Foss.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 3:00 - 8:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain where funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 am. Rev. Donna Gnagy will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst, Twp.
