Helen Mikus, (nee Bransztet), age 89, of Lorain, died on Monday, January 31, 2005 at Kendal at Oberlin, following a lengthy illness.
She was born on February 17, 1915 in Lorain and has been a lifelong resident.
Helen was a 1932A graduate at Lorain High School. She attended Fenn College and graduated with a law degree from Ohio State University in 1937.
A private practice Lorain lawyer, Helen started working in 1937 with her late husband, Attorney Paul J. Mikus, who at one time served as Lorain County Prosecutor and Lorain County Common Pleas Judge. She retired in 1997.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Lorain County and State Bar Association.
She enjoyed swimming, cooking, gardening, flowers, and polka dancing.
She is survived by her son: Thomas Mikus, of Houston, Texas, brother: Paul Bransztet of Lorain, sisters: Martha Griffith and Regina Bransztet, both of Laguna Niguel, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years: Paul J. Mikus in 1995, parents: Walter Bransztet and Caroline Bransztet (nee Nowakowski), brothers: Karl in 2002 and Leo in 1992.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a 10:00 a.m. mass at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Lorain. Rev. Fr. David Novak, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
