Helen E. Kovacs, (nee Rogach), 86, of Lorain, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Amherst Manor.
She was born Nov. 30, 1924 in Lorain, where she lived her entire life.
Helen was a long time member of the former St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, Lorain. She then belonged to the former Holy Trinity Church, Lorain, and currently a member of the Church of St. Peter, Lorain. While attending St. Ladislaus, she sang in the church choir, and belonged to the Virgin Mary Society and the St. Ann's Auxiliary. She also sang in the church choir at Holy Trinity Church.
In her youth, Helen played shortstop in the CYO softball league. For many years, she volunteered her time at St. Joseph Hospital, and she received a recognition pin for exceeding 1500 hours of service to the hospital. Helen loved to cook, and was famous for the palachintas she made. She enjoyed crocheting, and loved her family.
Surviving is her son, Joseph of Lorain; daughter, Joanne Day of Lorain; 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Joseph, in 1983; parents, John and Helen (neeSzilagyi) Rogach; and a brother, John.
Private services were held for the family on Monday in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
