Helen Norton, (nee Ilcisco) 85, of Lorain, died Friday, December 21, 2007 at Kingston of Vermilion.
She was born July 30, 1922 in Lorain; moving to Avon in 1947 where she lived until moving back to Lorain in 1985. She was a 1940 graduate of Lorain High School.
She was a "Rosie the Riveter" for three years during World War II, working at the Cadillac-converted "bomber plant" in Cleveland while her husband served in the Navy.
Helen was a member of The First Baptist Church of Lorain from 1955 to the present, where she was known for her skills in organizing church bazaars and spaghetti suppers. An excellent baker, she was known especially for her pies, cream horns and European pastries.
She loved music, especially hymns and polkas.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Ruth Elaine Moorhead of Marion, Indiana, and Rita Kathleen Paulsen of Toledo; grandson, Scot R. Paulsen of Burlington, Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Charles Albert Norton, on February 26, 2006; a son, Thomas Norton in 1942; a daughter, Nancy Josephine Norton in 1946; parents, Mitro Ilcisco in 1934, and Julia (nee Milli) Ilcisco in 1973; brothers, Mitro "Lefty" Ilcisco, Joseph Ilcisco, and John Ilcisco; and a sister, Ann Chonko in 2007.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services 10:00 a.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Private burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst twp.
