Helen Yvonne Prosak (nee Niczky), 82, passed away after a long illness on Friday, August 7, 2009 at Main Street Care Center, Avon Lake.
She was born on December 14, 1926 and graduated from Lorain High School, class of 1945-A; she also attended Lorain County Community College. On September 9, 1950, she married the love of her life, Theodore L. Prosak. Along with her beloved husband, Ted, she is survived by her daughter, Dr. Leslie Ann Prosak-Beres, her son-in law, Dr. Richard J. Beres, and her grandson, Jonathan Andrew Beres, all of Cincinnati, Ohio. In addition, she is leaving behind many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Helen worked for the Lorain Telephone Company (now CenturyTel) for over 30 years as a service representative with the company before retiring. She was an active member of the Independent Telephone Association and a member of the local CWA, 4370, Communications Workers of America.
After retirement, she and her husband traveled most winters to the Carolinas, especially Hilton Head Island. She enjoyed being a member of the Amherst Golden Agers and was an avid artist and crafter.
Helen also belonged to St. John Roman Catholic Church, Lorain, for the past 55 years, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and Legion of Mary
Helen will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Anna Niczky, sisters, Lola Thompson, (nee Weiss) Julia and Margaret Niczky, and brothers, William (Weiss), Paul Nitzke and Leslie Niczky.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 10, 2009 from 2-4 PM, with a rosary service at 3 PM, and again from 7-9 PM in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 11 at 10:00 AM, at St. John Roman Catholic Church, 2143 Homewood Drive, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Thomas R. Smith, Pastor of St. John, and Rev. Fr. Lawrence Martello will officiate, with burial following in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Xavier University in support of the Helen Y. Prosak endowed scholarship for Graduate Programs in Reading and Multicultural Literature. Checks may be made out to: Xavier University, attn.
