Helen C. Szarek (nee Sender), age 86, of Lorain, died on Monday, December 25, 2006, at Kingston of Vermilion, Vermilion, after a lengthy illness.
She was born on March 7, 1920, in Lorain, Ohio, where she was a resident for her entire life. She was a graduate of Lorain High School, class of 1938B.
Helen was a dedicated homemaker for her family. She was a life-long member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, where she was a Eucharistic minister and member of the Altar and Rosary Society and Women's Guild.
She was the secretary/treasurer for the Polish Women's Alliance, Queen of Poland Lodge No. 754 for many years and a member of the P.A.C.C. (Polish American Citizen's Club).
She was a kind, generous, and loving wife and mother, who was dedicated to her family and her church. She enjoyed china painting, quilting, playing cards, and traveling with her husband.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna J. (Dennis) Abend, of Newark, OH, sons: James A. (Mary Alyce) Woltman, of Lorain, and Robert J. Woltman, of Laguna Beach, CA, stepsons: Alan C. Szarek, of Lorain, and Bob Szarek, of Westlake, 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, her sisters: Jean Mayak, of Elyria, and Dolores Yepko, of Vermilion, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Jane Woltman, on November 26, 1974, her husbands: Casimir "Chuck" Szarek, on March 28, 2006 and John Pavelschak, in battle during World War II, her parents, Ignatius and Veronica (nee Anuszkiewicz) Sender, and her brothers: Chester, Stanley "Bill", and John Sender.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 28, 2006, from 6-8 p.m., and again on Friday, December 29, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. A Rosary will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, during the visitation. Closing prayers will be held the following morning, Saturday, at 9:30 a.m., also in the funeral home. A funeral mass will follow at 10:00 a.m., at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Lorain. The Rev. Fr. David Novak will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Lorain.
