Helen Tomasic (nee Rado), age 84, passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2010, after a lengthy illness.
Helen was born on September 6, 1925, in Lorain, Ohio, to parents William and Mary Rado. She has three sisters; Emma Smith and Mary Zaborn, both of Georgia, and Sharon Lalak, of California, and one brother, William Rado, of Amherst. When Helen was very young, she lived in Atlanta, GA for a few years, before moving back to Lorain.
Helen was a 1944 graduate of Lorain High School. That same year, she met her future husband, George, and they were married in 1945. Helen and George had three children; Renee Davitz, of Lorain, Janice Tomasic, and Virgil Tomasic, of Amherst. They enjoyed going camping and fishing, as well as visiting Cedar Point and Niagara Falls. Helen and George loved traveling in their camper to Atlantic City and Las Vegas.
After George passed away in November 1991, Helen moved in with her son, Virgil. Later, she moved to a small apartment, before finally moving to Hearthstone in February 2008.
Helen has 2 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, 5 great granddaughters, 11 great grandsons, 3 great great granddaughters, and 2 great great grandsons. She loved working on jigsaw puzzles, playing BINGO, and visiting with the other residents of Hearthstone.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, George Tomasic, in 1991, their daughter, Janice, in 1977, a grandson, Kevin, in 1975, a great grandson, Steven, in 1995, and her parents; William Rado, Sr., in 1969, and Mary Rado, in 1990.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 9, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be held Wed., at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
