Henry Allen “Big Al” Bentley, age 67 of Amherst, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at New Life Hospice following his battle with cancer.
Born April 29, 1956, in Fleming-Neon, Kentucky to James W. and Ethel Loretta (nee Breeding) Bentley, Henry moved to Amherst in 1974. He attended J.J Kelly High School and obtained his GED from Lorain County Joint Vocational. In 1974 he joined Cleveland Quarries where he worked as the mine foreman until his retirement in 2021.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and above all, spending time with family and friends.
Surviving is his wife of nearly 50 years, Jeanne (nee Costello) Bentley; son, James (Tammy) Bentley; grandchildren, Austin Bentley and Andrew Bentley; brothers, J.C Bentley, Fred Wayne Bentley and Daniel Van Bentley; sisters, Martha Carolyn (Wayne) Jenkins and Elizabeth Annette (James) Freeman as well as 16 nieces and nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brothers, Jeffery Darrell and Rosi Edwin and sisters-in-law, Connie, Judy and Rita.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 9 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Dovin Funeral & Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Dick Kretchmar will officiate. Burial will follow at Kendeigh Corner Cemetery.
