Henry A. Salvastion

January 1, 1900 — November 28, 2008

Henry A. Salvastion, 84, formerly of Amherst, passed away peacefully in Westlake on November 28, 2008.


He was a retired electronics supervisor, a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign War Post 451, Lorain and member of Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20, Lorain. He served in the US Army during WWII as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division, 326th Engineering Co. He participated in the Invasion of Normandy where he was captured by the Germans and taken Prisoner of War where he was held until the liberation. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Bronze Arrowhead, 2 Bronze Stars, WWII Victory Medal, and Distinguished Unit Emblem.


He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marie (nee Stack) Salvastion of Westlake; daughters, Eileen Hill and Regina Holden both of Lorain; grandchildren Alicia Clepper and Sgt. Jason Giorgini; 5 great grandchildren; a sister Genevieve Mancusi of Florida; many nieces, and great nieces and nephews.


The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 12:30 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Deacon William Schill will officiate. Burial will follow in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, with full military honors.
