Herman Castillo, 66, of Lorain, died Saturday, March 4, 2006 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center West following a lengthy illness.
He was born May 2, 1939 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico; Herman came to Lorain in 1948. In 1960, he returned to Mayaguez for one year before coming back to Lorain. In 1966 he went to Mayaguez to live until 1983 when he came back to Lorain where he has lived since.
While living in Mayaguez, Herman served as a motorcycle policeman for the Caguas Police Department. In Lorain, Herman was the owner and operator of the former El Flamboyn Restaurant on Pearl Avenue, Lorain, for 9 years. He also worked as a corrections officer for the Lorain County Sheriffs Department for 9 years. Most recently he worked for Continental Airlines in Brookpark, Ohio in catering services.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain.
Surviving is his wife of 26 years, Maria Isabel (nee Gonzalez), sons, Herman Jr. and Alex both of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, Oscar of Lorain; daughters, Diani Castillo of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, and Nayadeth Skinner of Wellington; 7 grandchildren; his mother, Dionisia Castillo of Lorain; a brother, Max Castillo of Vieques, Puerto Rico; a sister, Maria Mateo of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his father, Pedro Castillo in 1996; sisters, Mariam Castillo and Aurea Castillo.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. in the funeral home followed my mass at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Ave., Lorain. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
