Hiriam Patterson, 82 of Lorain, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 2, 2010, at his residence, while under the care of New Life Hospice and surrounded by his loving family.
Hiriam was born in Lacon, Alabama on July 1, 1927 to the late Hiriam and Leathie (nee Engle) Patterson. He married his late wife Flora Vineda (nee Hale) on October 5, 1949 and relocated to Lorain in 1952 where they have resided since.
Hiriam started working at the Lorain Ford Assembly Plant in 1958 as a line operator and retired in 1988 as a rail loader after 30 years of service. He was a member of the United Autoworkers Union Local 425.
Hiriam has been member of Christian Life Church in Lorain since 1974. He was active in church functions as well as the up keep of the church grounds. Having been a member of the church for 36 years, he was proud to be considered the "oldest" church member there.
Hiriam was an avid fisherman and he enjoyed boating on Lake Erie. Everyone has heard one of his "fishing stories". He also enjoyed being outdoors, but his greatest passion was the Christmas season. Every year he went all out decorating for Christmas with his house lighting up the entire street.
Hiriam had a love for animals and had several dogs over the years. He will be sadly missed by his companion "Snowball".
Survivors include his daughter with whom he made his home with, Linda (Jim) Ellison of Lorain; granddaughter, Beth (Chuck) Daniels of Lorain; and grandson, Robert Ellison of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Flora Vineda (nee Hale) Patterson on June 17, 2005; his son, Robert Allen Patterson on October 29, 2004; five brothers and four sisters; and a great granddaughter, Tia Lenae Daniels on February 23, 2007.
He is gone but not forgotten.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-9 pm in the Christian Life Church, 3559 W. Erie Ave., Lorain, where funeral services will be Thursday at 11:00 am. Rev.
