Homer C. Jones

Homer C. Jones, 85, of Lorain, died Friday, October 24, 2008 at his residence while under the care of New Life Hospice following a short illness.


Born August 16, 1923 in Mt. Pleasant, PA; he has lived in Lorain since 1952. He was a 1941 graduate of Hurst High School in Mt. Pleasant and graduated from Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.


He served in the US Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Boque during World War II. He was a Sheffield Lake US Postal Service letter carrier for 30 years, retiring in 1986. Prior to that, he worked for Grimm Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, Lorain Works US Steel and Fruehauf Trailer.


Homer was a charter member of Good Shepard Lutheran Church since 1954, where he was an active member until its closing in 2000. He was currently a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Lorain. He was also a life member of the VFW and an active member and volunteer of the Lorain Family Y, current member of EMH Fitness Center, Avon. He enjoyed hunting in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, swimming, sports and gardening.


Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Grace (nee James); a son, Paul "Roger" of Colorado Springs, CO; 2 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his son, Marc "Rick"; parents, Emery Jones and Eva (nee Spiker) Jones; brothers, Marion "Ray", William, Gene and Charles; a sister Melva Grimm.


Friends may be received on Thursday from 11:30 am until the time of the memorial service at 1:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave, Lorain. Rev. Laurie Miller, pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, will officiate. Contributions can be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 1805 Pearl Ave., Lorain, Ohio 44055.
