Hugh M. Hummel, 83, of Sheffield Lake, died Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at the Ohio Veteran's Home, Sandusky following a lengthy illness.
Born Jan. 29, 1928 in Rush Twp., Pa., he has been a resident of Sheffield Lake since 1962.
He served in the US Army in the 11 Airborne, 408 Quartermaster Company during World War II.
Hugh worked for General Motors in the Appliance Service Division for over 30 years, retiring in 1988.
He enjoyed bowling and watching all sports.
Surviving is his son, Hugh of Sheffield Lake; daughters, Christine Williams and Kathleen Farabough both of Lorain; and 4 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Laura Kvapil; a son, Neal, in 1989; parents, Orin and Daisy (nee Moore) Hummel; brothers, Wallace, Melvin and Henry; and a sister, Donna Rae.
Graveside services for the family were held Friday in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain. Rev. Robert Daugherty officiated. The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, handled the arrangements.
