Ines Reyes, 96, of Lorain, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2016 at the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, following a lengthy illness.
Born May 4, 1920 in Utuado, Puerto Rico, he came to Lorain in 1954.
He worked at Lorain Works US Steel for 15 years, retiring in 1985. Prior to that he worked for Fruehauf for 22 years. Ines served four years in the US Army, 244th Military Police Company during World War II. He received the American Defense Service Medal with Metal Clasp, American Theater Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal and 7 Overseas Service Bars
Ines was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain and played guitar at the church. He was also a member of the Charismatic Group and Cursillo Movement. He was a member of the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104. He loved playing his guitar and watching the Cleveland Indians.
Surviving are his sons, Francisco (Lottie) of Lorain, Antonio (Linda) of Lorain, Jose of Vermilion, Rene of Lorain; Minerva "Minnie" (Larry) Leonard of Amherst, Elizabeth (Roberto) Jacinto of Lorain, Gladys (Dennis) Torres of Lorain, Rachel Gentile of Las Vegas; Janet Reyes of Fairview Park, nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Carmen Reyes (nee Alvarez) in 1994, parents, Jose and Angela (Nee Guzman) Reyes; and a sister.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Wednesday at 8:45 am followed by mass at 9:30 am at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. William Thaden, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. The Disabled American Veterans Louis Pal Proy Chapter 20 will conduct military honors.
