Ignacio F. Reyes Sr.

Ignacio F. “Nacho” Reyes, age 89, of Amherst, died Sunday, June 4, 2023, at his residence following a short illness.

Born on February 1, 1934, in Mexico City, Mexico, he came to Lorain in 1955 and received his citizenship in 1996.

Nacho owned and operated Rt. 58 Autobody and Collision Service in Amherst for 30 years, retiring in 2002. From his occupation, he really enjoyed teaching, mentoring, and sharing his experiences and knowledge of his automotive business.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain, and the Automotive Service Association. Nacho enjoyed feeding and watching the birds in his yard and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling including many trips to Mexico to visit his family. He also enjoyed talking and reminiscing about the old days.

Surviving are his children, Guillermo “Bill” (Lori) Reyes of Sandusky, Alfredo Reyes of Amherst, Juan (Diana) Reyes of Swanton, Ohio, and Guadalupe Bessette (Richard Santos) of Lorain; grandchildren, Nicolas, Cassandra, Alfredo Jr., Alejandro F., Heather, and Mark; great granddaughter, Dani Marie; and brother, Manuel Vazquez of Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Dolores in 1994; second wife, Delia in 2014; son, Ignacio “Iggy” Reyes Jr.; stepson, James Bessette; brothers, Javier Reyes, Hilolito Gutierrez, and Dionisio Gutierrez; and sisters, Gala Zaragoza, Estelle Gutierrez, and Rosa Sanchez.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Visitation will also be held on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. William Thaden, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Ignacio can be made to Friendship Animal Protective League, 8303 Murray Ridge Road, Elyria, 44035.
