Irene Boluch (nee Baran), age 87, of Lorain, died on Friday, August 22, 2008 at New Life Hospice Residential Center, Lorain.
She was born Jan. 30, 1921 in Teliaz, Sokal, Ukraine, and came to Lorain in 1951 from Germany.
Irene worked at St. Joseph Hospital, Lorain in housekeeping in the surgical unit. Prior to that, she worked for Central Bakery and Airport Tavern.
She was a member of St. John Ukrainian Byzantine Catholic Church, Lorain, where she volunteered her time making pirogi for many years. She was also a member of the Ukrainian National Home, the Ukrainian Women's League and the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America. She enjoyed writing poetry, embroidering and cross stitching Ukrainian items, gardening and babysitting her grandchildren.
Surviving is her son, J. Peter (Leslee) Baron of Elyria; daughters, Olga Havanas of Elyria and Lidia (John) Ganobcik of Amherst; grandchildren, Sean Havanas, Brian Havanas, Michael Havanas, Melanie (Tim) Meyer, Eric Baron, Rory Baron, Alex Baron, Erika Baron, and Wesley Ganobcik; great grandchildren, T.J. Meyer, Justin Meyer, and Ryan Meyer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jaroslaw, in 1981; parents, Josyf and Justyna (nee Markywicz) Baran; and a brother Paul who died in infancy.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11:30 a.m. at the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral liturgy will follow at 12:00 pm at St. John Ukrainian Byzantine Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Steven Poliwoda, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
