Irene M. Kish (nee Kacsandi), age 87, of Sheffield Township, died on Monday, March 24, 2008, at Golden Acres Nursing Home, Amherst, after a brief illness.
She was born on September 15, 1920, in Smithton, PA. She resided in Sheffield Township for the past 66 years.
Irene was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Lorain. She was also a long-time member of the St. Macrina Guild at the former St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church. She was a trustee for the Hungarian Council and the American Hungarian Citizen's Club. Irene also belonged to the "Jolly 60's." She was employed at the Thomas Wolfe Greenhouse for 25 years before retiring in 1964.
She enjoyed playing BINGO and cards, especially Pinochle, as well as crocheting.
Irene is survived by her son, Theodore "Ted" Daniel Kish, of Lorain, her daughter, Theodora "Terry" Douglass, of Amherst, 4 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and a sister, Elizabeth Kargard, of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Theodore T. Kish, in 1983, brothers; Steve, John, Joseph, and William Kacsandi, and her parents; Steve and Lizzie (nee Kalitch) Kacsandi.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 27, from 5 -8 pm, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where Panachida will be Friday morning at 9:30 am, followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:00 am, at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 2711 W. 40th Street, Lorain. The Very Rev. Nicholas Rachford, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
