Jack C. Mezatasta, age 76, of Wakeman, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at his residence while under the care of Mercy New Life Hospice following a 2-year battle with cancer.
Born March 14, 1941 in Amherst, he lived in Lorain until recently moving with his wife to Wakeman to live with his son Joe. Jack was a 1960 graduate of Lorain High School.
He worked as a Cut-Off Operator in the #3 Seamless Mill at Lorain Works US Steel for 25 years, retiring in 2003. Prior to this, Jack worked for Cook Coffee and Ontario stores traveling the country setting up new stores.
He was a member of the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104 and enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and spending time with his family. For many years, Jack had a booth at Jamie's Flea Market in South Amherst selling goods. He also sold goods on eBay.
Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Barbara (nee Rigo); sons, Joe of Wellington and Greg of Lorain; grandchildren, Mark of Columbus, Georgia and Olivia of Lorain; brothers, Frank and Jim (Beth) both of Lorain and Tony (Shirlee) of Lutherville, Maryland.
He was preceded in death by his son, Mark in 2016; parents, Frank and Dorothy (nee Baldwin) Mezatasta; and a sister, Mary Lou Thomas in 1998.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11:00 am until the time of funeral services at 2:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Karen Farthing will officiate. To send online condolences go to
