James Clifford Arend, age 71, of Lorain, passed away on Thursday, May 24th, 2012, at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain.
He was born on April 28, 1941, in Fostoria, OH, living in Lorain for the past 46 years. He was a 1959 graduate of St. Wendelin High School, in Fostoria. He then served in the United States Navy from 1959 until 1963. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, James was employed as an inspector at the Ford Motor Co., for 29 years, retiring from there in 1993. He was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church.
James devoted his life and his love to his family. He is survived by his children; Mark Arend and Terri Shortlidge, both of Lorain, 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and his sisters; Janet Caskey and JoAnne Filhart, both of Fostoria.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Betty L. Carnahan, March 24, 2012, his parents; Dominic and Edith (nee Emerine) Arend, his brother, Carl, and a sister, Rosemary Butler.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 31, at 1:00 pm, at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The Rev. Fr. James R. Ols, Pastor of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, will officiate.
