James L. Camp

James L. Camp, age 74, of Lorain, died on Friday July 24, 2009 at Southwest General, in Middleburg Heights, from a short illness. Born on October 9, 1934 in Washington, PA, at age 17 he joined the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. Jim was a retired Sheet metal worker with the Local 33, though most of his years were spent as a rigger with the American Shipbuilding Company, until they closed in 1983.
He enjoyed bowling, playing softball, watching professional sports and listening to country music. What he loved most of all, was coaching (aggravating) his kids and grand kids in sports. He was very passionate about this and his hard work and dedication shows through all of them.
Surviving is his wife of 48 years, Dorie (nee Huhn), of Lorain, daughters; Lorie May and Doreen Camp, both of Lorain, son, Don Camp, of Lorain, grandchildren; Larry "Eli" Camp, Jimmy Camp, Brooks Camp, Lindsey Camp, Cory Camp, Marc Moore, Mindi Camp and Tyler Camp all of Lorain, and Nikki Davis, who is currently serving in the United States Air Force, sister, Freda Williams, of Avon Lake, brother Don Camp, of Sheffield Lake, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jim "Too Tall" who we lost in November 2008, twins Robert and Roberta Camp, Parents; William and Zelma Camp, sisters; Helen Brewer, Nora Siebert, Ruby DeGarmo, and Laura Hines, brothers; Ed and Art.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 31st, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be held the following morning at 11:00 am. The Rev. Edward Reust, will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain. Full Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 30 combined with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 451.
