James A. Hill, age 69, of Lorain, died Wednesday, June 20, 2004 at his residence following a long illness.
Born Nov. 28, 1934 in Cowan, TN, he came to Lorain in 1943.
He served in the US Army for 3 years in Hawaii during the Korean War.
He was employed at Lorain Works US Steel for 30 years, in several departments, retiring in 1996.
He was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Lorain, and the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104. He enjoyed driving trucks, fixing cars, riding motorcycles and telling jokes.
Surviving is his wife of 47 years, the former Betty Lee Saunders, 7 sons, Kevin, of Corona, CA, Kenneth, of Los Angelus, CA, Vince, of San Diego, CA, James Daryll West, of Elyria, Kristopher, James Jr., and Tracy Jackson, all of Lorain, 5 daughters, Cecelia Saunders, Tina Jackson, and Una Pamplin, all of Lorain, Pat West and Ruby West, both of Elyria, 27 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Hill, his mother, Nina (nee Hentchley) Burroughs, a daughter, Pennie Lynette Hill, this past March 13th, 2 infants, and a brother, Frederick Douglas Hill, in 1971.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. The family will also receive friends on Thursday from 12:00 noon until the time of services at 1:00 p.m. in Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 3900 Clifton Ave., Lorain. Rev. Peter Tower, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain. The Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20, will conduct full military honors.
