James E. Pfeifer, 66 years of age, passed away under the care of the Avon Oaks Skilled Nursing Facility on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 of complications from a lengthy bout with multiple sclerosis.
James was born May 27, 1942 in Lorain, Ohio to James H and Ethel Pfeifer. He was the eldest of 4 brothers. He was a graduate of Lorain High School in 1961-A and then he served in the United States Air Force with the Strategic Air Command during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After the Air Force he relocated to Kansas City and worked with early computers for the aircraft industry. James returned to Lorain County in 1996.
He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Lorain. He was also a member of Knights of St. John.
James enjoyed camping and spending time with his family. He was noted for his incredible sense of humor, quick wit, and his repertoire of early rock and roll music.
He is survived by his mother, Ethel Frances (nee Toth) Pfeifer, of Avon, daughter, Cynthia Pfeifer and granddaughter, Madison McBurney, both of Houston, TX, brothers, Thomas J. of Oberlin, Gerald R. of Pleasant Prairie, WI, and Paul J. of Oakland, CA and by life long friend, Dotty Thomas of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his father, James H. Pfeifer (1999) and daughter, Terresa H. Pfeifer (2004).
Services will be held at a later date. The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, is handling the arrangements.
