James Julius Plato, age 75, of Lorain, died on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at his residence while under the care of New Life Hospice, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on March 18, 1933 in Lorain, Ohio, living here his entire life.
He served in the United States Army.
James was employed as a commercial fisherman for Robert J. Cox, retiring in 1983. Prior to this he was employed in the shipyards.
James was a member of the Moose Club and Russo Slav Club on 28th Street in Lorain.
He enjoyed carving ships and wood carving. He also liked to make fishing and hunting knives and loved fishing.
He is survived by his 6 sons: James F., Al D., William M., Benny E. all of Lorain, Walter A., of Warrensville and Bengy Wahl of California, daughters: Aloma Ford, of Arizona, Christine L. Plato of Lorain, Ailene K. Gomez, of Puerto Rico, Lillian F. Agront, of Vermilion, Sylvia L. Plato of Lorain, Nancy J. Horvath of Vermilion, Toni MJB Horvath of Amherst, 30 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and 2 sisters: Joanne Wahl of Elyria and Dolores Hughes of North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Shirlly Ann (nee Matuzek) November 7, 2004, 4 daughters, a grandson, Aloysious and his parents, Aloysious & Phyrn Leoda (nee Faragher) Plato.
At the request of the family there will be no funeral services. The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain handled the arrangements.
