James H. "Jesse" Surrena, age 38, of Lorain, died on Thursday, January 11, 2007 in Indianapolis, Indiana from injuries sustained in a trucking accident.
He was born on August 31, 1968 in Canton, Ohio, living in Lorain for the past 30 years, he also lived in Marietta, Ohio as a child.
He attended Southview High School and was a graduate of Hamrick Truck Driving School.
Jesse was employed as a truck driver for over 8 years, he was currently employed at Haslage Trucking Company, Lorain for the past 3 ½ years while also working at Safe & Reliable Cab Company, in Lorain, where he was a limo driver. Prior to these jobs he was a manager at Dominos Pizza and was active in helping with his family business "Our Place Video and Ice Cream Heaven" and "Our Place Restaurant".
He enjoyed Nascar Racing, especially Jeff Gordon, watching the Pittsburg Steelers, playing the X -Box, he even made friends, as far away as Belgium, through playing the online X - Box version.
He is survived by his parents: Thomas and Peggy (nee Vargo) Boyd, of Lorain, his biological father: Hilton N. Surrena, of Marietta, Ohio, son: James "Jimmy" Hilton Surrena II, of Marietta, daughter: Jessica Nycole Surrena, of Marietta, 1 granddaughter: Angel Surrena, of Marietta, fiance: Christie Humphrey, of Lorain, brother: James Boyd of Lorain, sister: Heather Buckingham of Lorain, half brothers; Glen Lemaster, Larry Surrena, and Henry Allender, all of Marietta, and half sisters; Teddy Hesson, and Cathy Dowler, both of Marietta.
He was preceded in death by his biological mother: Betty Mercer, and a sister, Elizabeth Surrena.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 15, 2007 from 5-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, where Rev. John Slatcoff, deacon of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to any branch of Lorain National Bank in James H. Surrena's memory.
