Jeffrey M. Katkic, age 50, of Lorain, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2014, at Ames Family Hospice House, Westlake, following a double lung transplant and a lengthy illness.
He was born on March 25, 1964 in Lorain and lived here his entire life. He was a 1982 graduate of Southview High School and studied culinary arts under Eddy Solomon at the former McGarvey's Restaurant in Vermilion. Jeff went on to work at the Brown Derby in Lorain as a chef. For the last 20 years, Jeff worked at Oberlin Inn, retiring as their executive chef and kitchen manager in 2006.
Jeff loved animals and was a supporter of the Friendship Animal Protective League. He enjoyed his cars and traveling to Las Vegas.
Surviving is his parents, Joseph and Carol (nee Pernisky) Katkic of Lorain; a brother, Joseph of Lorain; and many cousins including Chrissy Koler, Daniel Koler and Tony Koler all of Lorain, Sharon Lewis of Vermilion, Robert Sas Jr. of Lorain and Brian Sas of Anchorage Alaska; and his faithful companion, Cinnamon.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Adam and Mary Pernisky, paternal grandparents, Ben and Mary Katkic, his aunts and uncles James and Geraldine Pernisky and Robert and Patricia Sas.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain where funeral services will be held on Friday at 12:30 p.m. Rev. John Retar, pastor of St. Frances Cabrini Parish will officiate. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
