Dmytro D. "Jim" Kostiuk, 87, of Elyria, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Center Ridge Health Campus in North Ridgeville, following a lengthy illness.
Born October 8, 1926 in Zakriwci, Stanislaviv, Ukraine, he lived in Bradford, Yorkshire, England from 1949 until 1956 when he and his family immigrated to Elyria.
Jim worked in maintenance at Kasper Foundry in Elyria for 26 years, retiring in 1991. Prior to this, he worked at Timms Spring Company in Elyria from 1956 to 1965.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Lorain, where he volunteered many hours helping to make pierogies and working bingo. Jim enjoyed gardening.
Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Katharina (nee Weimuller); a son, Michael P. (Barbara) of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan; daughters, Sonia (Steve) Pass of Elyria and Maria (Michael) Grega of Elyria; grandchildren, M. Peter Kostiuk of Foster City, California, Stephanie Kostiuk of New York City and John Grega of Chicago; and a brother, Michael of Zakriwci, Ukraine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Iwan and Parascevia (nee Romaniuk) Kostiuk; and sisters Tonka and Anna.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where a Panachida will be at 6:30 pm. Funeral services will be Saturday at 9:00 am in the funeral home followed by Divine Liturgy at 9:30 am at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 3038 Charleston Avenue, Lorain. The Very Rev. Canon Steven M. Paliwoda, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 3038 Charleston Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44055.
