Joan M. Busser, (nee Belanek), 99, of Lorain, died Sunday, October 29, 2006 at Lorain Manor Nursing Home, Lorain following a lengthy illness.
She was born Feb. 13, 1907 in Lorain; she lived here most of her life.
She graduated from Lorain High School in 1924, then from the St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in 1927, graduating as a registered nurse.
After graduating nursing school, Joan worked as a registered nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Dayton, then for Bureau of Juvenile Research in Columbus in the 1930's and at St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain from 1937 to 1941. She also worked for the Lorain Board of Health in the 1940's as a registered nurse, and for many years in private duty nursing.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Lorain, a member and past president of the St. John Altar and Rosary Society, the Legion of Mary at the church, and the St. Joseph Nurses Alumni.
Joan was recognized for her voluntary work by the House of Representatives for 1000 hours of service.
She is survived by her daughter Mary Joan Moorehead of Lilburn, Georgia; 2 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; and her daughter in law of Lorain, Shirley Busser, with whom she made her home with for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent P. Busser in 1984; parents, Andrew and Helen Belanek; son, Jerome in 2004; sister, Anne Lessett; and grandson, Michael in 1981.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Fr. Thomas Smith, pastor of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
