Joan E. Hritsko (nee Guzik), age 74, of Lorain, died on Saturday, March 19, 2005 in the Cleveland Clinic Hospital, following a sudden illness of 5 week's duration.
Born on April 21, 1930 in Lorain, Mrs. Hritsko had lived in Lorain all her life. She had a winter retreat in Naples, Florida and a former summer cottage on Pelee Island, Canada. She was a 1947 B graduate of the Lorain High School. She had formerly been employed as a bookkeeper for Ohio Edison in Lorain from 1947 to 1955.
She was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain and volunteered at the rectory and the school. She was a member of the former PLAV Post #38 Women's Senior Drill Team, of Lorain for 25 years. She enjoyed flower gardening, gourmet cooking and decorating the outside of the house, according to the holidays and seasons of the year.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, John J.; 2 daughters, Jolan M. Castillo and Mary Jo Schmittgen, both of Lorain; her mother, Stefanie Guzik (nee Nowakowski) of Lorain; 5 grandchildren; 1 brother, Alan J. Guzik of Avon; 2 sisters- Carol (Puskas) Szabo and Marlene Chrulski, both of Lorain; Numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph J. Guzik.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 22, 2005 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where services will be held on Wednesday, at 9:30 a.m., followed by mass at 10:00 a.m. at The Catholic Church of St. Peter. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
