John Bashak, age 93, of Amherst Township, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at his residence.
Born January 15, 1925 in Elyria, he lived in Amherst Township.
John was awarded 4 bronze stars in the United States Army where he was a fuel tanker driver for the Red Ball Express during World War II. He was a member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church and a Charter member of the Polish Club of Elyria as well as a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1079 in Elyria.
He was an avid bowler, participating in several bowling leagues during his life and was known for his skill in golf, earning many trophies. He loved to care for his house including mowing the lawn and loved to care for his beagles. John also enjoyed feeding the local birds and fish on his property.
Surviving is his sons, Don and Dan; grandchildren, Christina, David, Tonya, Jennifer, Rebecca, Brandon, John and Julia, as well as several great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Bashak; parents, Andrew and Katherine (nee Serochak) Bashak, son, Bob; daughter, Diane; brothers, Andy, Mike, Chuck and Nick; sisters, Helen and Mary and granddaughter, Laura.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00 - 8:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain where funeral services will be Thursday at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
