John C. "Jack" Bauer, age 85, of Lorain, died Friday, May 30, 2008, at Community Health Partners HSC - West, Lorain.
He was born on June 23, 1922, in Lorain, Ohio. He resided in Iowa from 1950 until 1964, moving back to Lorain in 1964.
Jack was in the Royal Canadian Air Force, later joining the United States Air Force, where he was a fighter pilot during World War II. He was employed as an Instructor at the Aviation High School in Cleveland. Throughout his life, he was also an aviation and auto mechanic, as well as a truck driver.
He enjoyed working crossword puzzles, cooking on the grill, and vacationing in Cape Hatteras, NC. Jack loved anything dealing with airplanes.
Jack is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy (nee Featherstone), his son, John C., of Lorain, his daughter, Diane E. Russ, of Norwalk, grandson, Jason M. (Maureen) Russ, and great granddaughter, Addison S. Russ, all of Columbus, a sister, Vivian Stolar, of Elyria, and very special friends; Norman and Sheri Johnston, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth, in infancy, his parents; John C. and Harriett (nee James) Bauer, brothers; Jimmy, Joseph, and Fredrick, and a sister, Janice.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 3, 2008, from 11:00 am until the time of services at 12:00 pm, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Dave Brown, Pastor of The Chapel, Sandusky, will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Garden, Avon. Full military honors will be provided by the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20, at the burial.
