John G. Gradish

John G. Gradish, age 91, of Elyria, died on Saturday, May 2, 2009, at Wesleyan Village, Elyria.
He was born on June 24, 1917, in Mammouth, PA, but lived most of his life in the Lorain and Elyria area. He is a 1935 graduate of Lorain High, and then served in the United States Army during World War II.
John worked at Lorain Auto Parts for 35 years, before retiring in 1983. He had also worked as a stock broker at the Pierre R. Smith Brokerage House in Elyria, for 20 years.
He was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, as well as a life member of, both the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20, Lorain and the American Legion Post #12, Elyria. John was also a member of the Elyria Township Zoning Board of Appeals for 30 years.
He enjoyed teaching Square and Round Dancing, serving as Treasurer for the Cleveland Round Dance Teacher's Association.
He is survived by his sisters; Margaret Staszak, Elizabeth Osko, and Mary Dembinski, all of Lorain.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine K. "Kate" (nee Kaczay), in 1994, his parents; Paul and Elizabeth (nee Berdak) Gradish, sisters; Elsie Gradish and Agnes Garcia., and his brothers; Paul and Raymond.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 4, from 6-8 pm, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where services will be held at 9:30 am. A funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 am, at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, 41295 North Ridge Road, Elria. The Rev. Fr. James R. Ols, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The family will also be receiving friends for a memorial service, at a date to be announced, at the Wesleyan Village, Elyria.
