John S. Los, 73 of Lorain, died Sunday, June 25, 2006 at Southwest General Health Center, Middleburg Heights, following a 1 year illness.
He was born Dec. 9, 1932 in Lorain, and lived here his entire life. He was a 1950 graduate of Lorain High School.
He served as corporal in the US Army during the 1950's.
John retired in 1983 from Lorain Works US Steel where he worked the last 10 years as a foreman in the No. 3 Seamless Mill. Prior to that, he was a cut off man and pipe extender in the No. 3 Seamless Mill. Following his retirement, he worked at Zim's Café and Crystal Rock Tavern, both in Lorain, until 1995.
John enjoyed wood working and building wooden wishing wells. He always kept busy, and liked to cook ethnic foods, attend family gatherings and spend time with friends. He also enjoyed dressing as Santa Claus for family and friends for 10 years. He enjoyed going to various casinos across the US.
He is survived by his sons, John Jr. of Amherst, Philip of Columbus, and Joseph M. of Lorain; daughters, Karen Ann Trautwein of Lorain, Mary Ann Bertram of Lorain, and Ann Terese Bonecutter of Lorain; 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Cassie Repko of Lorain, and Janet Flontek of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Mae (nee Aguayo) in 1992; a daughter, Linda Mogus in 2004; parents, Joseph Los in 1944 and Mary Ann (nee Rogoz) Los in 1960; brothers, Edward Los in 1967, Walter Los and step- brother, Stanley Szafran.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue Lorain. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Deacon William Schill, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
