John V. Manecci, age 80, of Lorain, died on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Community Health Partners Hospital, Lorain, following a brief illness.
He was born on February 14, 1929 in Donora, PA moving to Lorain in 1948.
He attended school in Pennsylvania. Through the Veterans Administration, he was awarded his High School Diploma in 2007.
John served in the United States Navy, during WWII, serving in the North Atlantic on the USS Maloy DE-791.
He was employed as an electrician/motor inspector at US Steel for over 39 years, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of Nativity BVM Catholic Church. He was also a life member of VFW Post # 451, Lake Erie Moose Lodge #552, Knights of Columbus and Operation Open Heart.
John enjoyed gardening, casino gambling, spending time with his grandchildren and local politics.
He is survived by his 3 sons, John F. (Janice) of Lorain, Raymond A. (Evelyn) of Greensboro, NC and Louis J. of Winter Park, FL, grandchildren, Christopher, Kyle, Katie, and Karyn, all of FL, Tony and Tina, of NC, his great grandson, Noah of Massillon, OH, 2 brothers, Gino (Eda) Manacci, of Lorain and Mario (Marie) Manecci of Fairfax, VA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Marian (nee Mihalic) in 2007 and his parents, Frank and Domenica (nee Boni) Maniacci.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 21, 2009 from 4 - 8:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where a rosary will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a 10:00a.m. Mass at Nativity BVM Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Robert Glepko, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park. The Veterans of Foreign War Post #451 will conduct full military honors.
