John F. "Johnny" Pena, Jr. age 22, of Elyria, passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2012.
Born on February 13, 1990 in Elyria, he had lived in Amherst and Elyria. He graduated from Marion L. Steele High School, Amherst, in 2008.
Johnny served in the United States Army, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Marksman Marksmanship Badge with a Riffle Bar.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel and also had attended House of Praise International Church. He was also a member of American Legion Post 118, Amherst.
He enjoyed watching football, attending Cleveland Brown's games and spending time with his son and family.
He is survived by his wife of 3 years, Tyra (nee Nazelrod) Pena; son, Jayden M.F. Pena; father, John F. (Shari) Pena, Sr. of Amherst; mother, Paula Nabakowski, of Elyria; a sisters, Angela (Billy) Teter of Amherst; step sister, Brandy Smith of Lorain; paternal grandmother, Eva Pena - Torres of Lorain; maternal grandparents, Michael (Phyllis) Nabakowski of Vermilion, and Karen Meanor of Oberlin.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather: Fred Pena in 2000.
The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, handled private visitation and the funeral mass at Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. The Amherst Military Honor Guard conducted military honors.
