John Erwin Pyles, 80, of Lorain, died Sunday, January 20, 2008 at his residence while under the care of Hospice of the Western Reserve following a short illness.
A Lorain resident since 1953, John started working for Ford Motor Co. Brookpark plant in Cleveland. He then worked for Lorain Lumber for 17 years followed by Black River Lumber as a truck driver for 13 years. In 1993, he retired from Gargasz Inc., Amherst, after 5 years there.
John loved helping people, working around the garage and repairing things. He also enjoyed painting, gardening, carpentry and his family.
He was born August 25, 1927 in Newberg, W. Virginia to Albert Forest Pyles and Ruby (nee Heiskell) Pyles. He leaves behind his children, Richard Pyles of Florida, Bernice "Sue" Piper, Betty Hennes, Christine Wooten, John W. Pyles, Joyce Pyles, Kevin Pyles all of Lorain, and Pamela Hart of Nevada; several grandchildren and great grandchildren and nieces and nephews; brothers, Arnold and Robert Pyles; sisters, Bessie Poling, Virginia DeWitt, and Pauline Schaferman.
He was preceded in death by his fist wife, Nancy E. (nee McGinnis) Pyles in 1986, his second wife Martha Baran Pyles (nee Dechant) in 1991; daughter, Ruby Jean Pyles; parents; brother, Harold Pyles; and a granddaughter, Sirena May Pyles.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Dale Warrick, pastor of Cornerstone United Methodist Church, Elyria, will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
