Obituary of John N. Stecz
A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grand father. He shared his love of the Lord and love of life with all he met. John remained jovial and loving to the end of his life on February 17, 2015. He was born on Dec. 11, 1926 in Winbur PA to John & Mary (Popovich) Stecz and has been a life-long resident of Elyria, Ohio. John left Lorain High School at 17 years old to serve his country during WWII and the Korean War. In 2000 he was able to walk with the graduates and receive his high school diploma. He was employed at Forest Distributing/Kerr Beverage until he retired in 1989. John was a former member of St. Nickolas Byzantine Catholic Church where he served in the Holy Name Society. He was currently a member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #451 and the American Legion. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer and bowler, as well as, enjoyed running his micro flea marketing business until age 86 when he became ill.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Beverly (Nairy), three children Sue Stecz Kuhn of Elyria, Laura (Gary) Harrington of New Philadelphia and Timothy Stecz of Elyria. He is the proud grandfather of 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren not including 3 on the way.
He was preceeded in death by his mother and father, sister Hermina (Lengyel) and brother, Michael Stecz.
The family will receive friends on Friday, from 4-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. The family will also receive friends on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 41295 North Ridge Road, Elyria. Rev. Fr. Donald Dunson, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park. Military honors will be conducted at the cemetery. To send online condolences, go to
